Casselman-Embrun Ice Dogs Minor Bantam B win International Silver Stick

The Casselman-Embrun Minor Bantam IceDogs (2016-2017) are on top of the hockey world.  The team went 2-2 in Round Robin play this past weekend (Jan. 12-15, 2017) and qualified for the playoffs. It was a hard battle in the semis going into the 8th period of OT, however, the IceDogs prevailed and defeated the highly favourite Woodstock JR Navy Vets, a strong and now rated “AA” team, which only allowed 1 goal in the 4 games of round-robin play, to therefafter win over a team that had previously beat them in the round-robin in order to be crowned the winners in the Finals to become the 1st ever HEO-Minor - District 3 Rep-B team to win an International Silver Stick Final Championship.

After capturing the Regional Northumberland, ON (Cobourg) title in early December 2016, the Ice Dogs qualified for the Newmarket International SS Finals for January 2017.

This past Thursday, the group of players, coaches, parents and siblings started their trek to Newmarket with one united goal - to win this International tournament.

Game 1: L (1-2) – Barrie Colts A (37-4-5);

Game 2: W (2-1) – Halton Hills Thunder A (22-14-6);

Game 3: W (3-0) – Newmarket Redmen A (Host);

Game 4: L (3-4) – Aurora Tigers A (23-8-10);

Game 5 (Semi-Final): W (2-1) (8OT)– Woodstock JR Navy Jets AA (29-4-5);

Game 6 (Final): W (2-1) – Barrie Colts A (37-4-5).

Congratulations to the Coaching staff for their hard work, implication and dedication. The team, not only did they work hard on the ice but their determination, teamwork and sportsmanship were also unparalleled.

On a special note, the Casselman-Embrun IceDogs team name will be displayed on the Original Silver Stick located in the Canada Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto this summer.

Ottawa Sens Major Bantam AAA

We received this story which just begs to be published and shows how our members can make a difference.

Community Spirit!

Hockey teaches many different things: determination, dedication, teamwork and leadership. It also teaches kids about sacrifice, integrity and character.

This December 2016, the Ottawa Sens Major Bantam AAA team sponsored a family through the ‘Adopt a Family’ program with the Kanata Food Cupboard. Over 450 families received food and gifts this holiday season due to the kindness and support of many volunteers.

We are proud of this team for taking time to provide a family with a memorable Christmas this year. This kind of community spirit not only helps people in need, but it teaches us about teamwork and helps develop our kids into responsible citizens.

Tom Renney announced that Hockey Canada’s chief operating officer, Scott Smith, has been appointed president and COO effective July 1, 2017.
Renney, who joined the organization as president and CEO in 2014, will continue to lead and set the direction for Hockey Canada in his role as chief executive officer. He said the move to promote Smith will allow the organization to more effectively deliver on its mandate to grow the game within Canada, and abroad.
