AAA Major Midget Draft

The Major Midget Draft Session slated for September 23rd, 2010 has been cancelled. The 5 "AAA" Associations this year had adequate numbers of talented players trying out for them to create teams without resorting to the draft process. Thanks to those players that did express an interest in the process and best of luck to all in the upcoming season.

Director at Large, ODMHA

New Information Tool

Today a project that has been underway for almost two years is showing the first major signs of life. In an effort to provide the most comprehensive tool to assist our members in registering, the ODMHA has been geomapping the boundaries of all of the Associations with the purpose of providing a tool that will allow new players to determine where to register by just entering their address into our mapping tool.
As of now we have put the tool online. On the left side menu bar, scroll down to "Where do I register my child for hockey?" and you will be taken to our mapping link. Once you enter your address you will be taken to the Association's website link to assist you in your registration.
As of now the Associations within Districts 1, 2 and 3 are not live yet but are being worked on and they will appear as they are completed. With any luck we should have the whole project completed before January.
This tool is unique in the hockey world and will be very valuable in guiding people to the right area.
Please check it out and provide us with feedback at

Quest for Gold - Coaching Funds

Dear PSO,
How will you be spending your summer? Sitting on a dock up north or taking up a new sport? Perhaps you will be planning your 2010-2011 season which should include applying for Quest For Gold Enhanced Coaching Funds.
This program serves the purpose of keeping excellent coaches in Ontario in the communities where they live. Unlike other grant programs, Q4G Enhanced Coaching funds can be accessed year round on a continuous intake basis, respecting your various sport cycles and busy schedules.
What's changed for 2010-2011?

Apprentice Program:
As Coaches, we’re always analyzing performance and finding ways to improve. In addition to the traditional apprentice program (i.e. one mentor – one coach), we’ve added a second option:
The Apprenticeship Program Option 2 is an opportunity for a number of Apprentice Coaches to interact directly with a variety of mentor coaches in a concentrated group at a high performance competition event. The aim of this program is for PSOs to educate coaches using the competition setting with an intense and structured mentorship program that takes place in Ontario.
1. Funds: Up to $8,000 per program
2. Apprenticeship Structure Ratio: Minimum 2 Apprentices: 1 Mentor; Maximum 10 Apprentices: 1 Mentor
3. Who is Eligible: All Apprentice coaches must be from Ontario. Mentor/Master coaches have no restrictions
Coach Bursaries:
Last year we reached 401 coaches through the bursary program and this year we are targeting 500 coaches! Up to 70 percent of course fees will be subsidized for eligible NCCP programs.
To apply for 2010-2011 funding, visit the Quest for Gold website at www.coachesontario.ca/q4g
